About the OPPORTUNITY – This new opportunity is for a First Nations Community Programs Lead based at Williamtown, NSW, within a line of business that focuses not only on aircraft sustainment but also training the future defence force technicians. The Aerospace line of business currently has over 800 employees across the Country. Reporting to the People Lead – Aerospace, the role involves developing and leading community-based initiatives that align with the company's values and objectives for First Nations peoples. BAE Systems Australia promotes flexible work arrangements, including hybrid working, offering a supportive and adaptable work environment. This role is part-time 3 days per week to support the successful candidate balance other community, volunteer personal or work-related activities; full time may be considered. Key responsibilities include: Reviewing and Implementing Community Strategy : The successful candidate will critically assess the current Williamtown community strategy, test ideas, and ensure they are empowered to make changes and drive the delivery of the strategy. Engaging with First Nations Employees : Engage with existing First Nations employees to gather insights on their experiences in pre-employment, recruitment, retention, and professional development. Use this feedback to explore ways to enhance their overall experience. Exploring Local Partnerships : Identify and build partnerships with Aboriginal education and employment providers, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and/or businesses for training in specific skills that align with the program's needs. Improving Perceptions of the Defence Industry : Work with the local community to improve the perception of working in the Defence Industry. Partnering with External Agencies : Collaborate with other agencies, organisations, defence companies, and Commonwealth-funded initiatives to support First Nations people in becoming job-ready. Consulting with the Community : Build relationships and actively consult with the Local Aboriginal Land Councils and other local community organisations to determine how BAE Systems Australia can better support First Nations people in preparing for and securing employment opportunities. This role is integral to fostering stronger connections between BAE Systems and the First Nations community, ensuring both strategic alignment and impactful outcomes. About YOU Applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Applicants must have the ability to gain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. The role requires the ability to travel for community engagement. Applicants must either have their own transportation or be able to travel to various locations as needed.
