THE ROLE The purpose of the Foundry Mechanical Engineering Technologist's role is to analyse, set, apply, and modify new and established engineering technologies and practices, applying this to testing and implementation in engineering projects and machine operational activities such as the design and cast products. Setting up the manufacturing jobs to manufacture as per the Engineering specifications, to the demanding quality expectations set by the customer and organization, and complete products as per the schedule and in keeping with the role’s performance indicators. THE INCUMBENT SHALL BE Experienced in preparing products to produce metal castings. Proficient in creating CAD models and simulations. Skilled in developing Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions. Knowledgeable in Process Improvement. Experienced in mold preparation for sand casting. Adept in metallic elements composition. Capable of preparing timing plans for projects. Experienced in supporting trial runs. Familiar with quality specifications. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Create error-free product/design documentation for new and existing products. Establish standard operating procedures for casting processes and assist with QA testing and product inspection. Develop best practices to improve production capacity, quality, and reliability. Evaluate current production activities and make recommendations for improvements. Ensure adherence to all safety and regulatory policies and procedures. Provide guidance and training to team members to accomplish production goals and ensure optimal machine operation. Control metal usage while maintaining product quality standards. Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by management. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Tertiary qualifications in Engineering. Metallurgical Engineering experience. Experience in the creation of Engineering documentation. Experience in metal testing and composition determination.
