Job Description

Responsible To: Facilities Manager/Deputy Facilities Manager The department covers a diverse range of support functions, including all aspects of housekeeping and cleaning. The cleaner will work within a team to upkeep both internal and external areas of the College. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Cleaning of designated areas that may change from time to time to include common rooms, corridors, stairs, bathrooms, toilets, showers, bedrooms, kitchen, public areas and teaching rooms. Preparing rooms as necessary for teaching, courses or meetings. Driving college vehicles around the campus. Moving furniture and equipment as required, which may involve moderate heavy lifting. Moving bagged general waste and recycling to collection point. Window cleaning to ground floor. Maintaining cleaning equipment. Ensuring areas are kept secure. Observing and complying with the college’s Health and Safety policy and Code of Practice. Observing COSHH regulations and the safe use of chemicals. Any other duties as assigned by the line manager. Key Skills and Qualities required: Knowledge of Manual Handling regulations (desirable). Full driving license (essential). First Aid qualification (preferred but not essential). Must be able to undertake moderately heavy manual handling. Experience of working in a customer service environment. Personal Qualities: Customer service oriented with polite, friendly communication skills and a ‘can do’ attitude. A team player who is willing, positive, cheerful and adaptable. Committed to providing a quality service right down to the small details. Proactive in seeking service improvements. This job description sets out the main duties at the time it was drawn up.
