About the role Your role will be to operate the Victorian gas transmission system, including the management of system flows and pressures, using engineering and modelling tools to maintain system security and the efficient operation of compressors. Inherent in this responsibility is the requirement to produce gas demand forecasts and schedule the Victorian gas market in accordance with National Gas Market Rules and operating procedures, including resolving scheduling issues by utilising real-time data analysis within strict time constraints. Gas Operations are conducted in accordance with complex and wide-ranging national market rules, commercial agreements and engineering/operational safety standards. Market and transmission operations are underpinned by an ongoing comprehensive training and assessment program that ensures a high level of competence and skills within the team. The operational environment provides significant challenges requiring expedient real time problem analysis to resolve with a minimal effect on the market and minimum security risk to gas supply. What you will be doing Perform both market and safety-critical gas transmission operations within a 24 hour/365 day rotating roster in a two-person team environment. Conduct real time operational control of the Victorian Declared Transmission System and the associated Wholesale Gas Market. Provide operational technical advice, analysis and recommendations to support the maintenance, review, operation, analysis and enhancements necessary to maintain and advance operational practices to internal and external stakeholders. Interpret and apply market rules and concepts to independently resolve routine real-time issues. Forecast probable transmission operational scenarios and issues. Develop operating strategies to mitigate operational risks and facilitate the market dictated geographic gas injections/withdrawals while maintaining a secure and reliable operating state. What you will bring to the role Tertiary qualifications, preferably in Engineering, such as Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent work experience. Control room and shift experience will be highly regarded, preferably in Gas. However, utility/infrastructure or similar will be considered. Experience in using complex software to resolve difficult technical problems, ideally with some experience in the use of modelling software. Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems. Strongly developed verbal communication skills with good written communication skills along with experience in explaining technical problems in simple language. Ability to make complex operational decisions in real time, some with far reaching financial and system security implications.
