General Manager of Consulting (Volunteer Opportunity) The General Manager (GM) Consulting sits within the Head Office of the Global Consulting Group (GCG) and reports to the CEO. The GM Consulting has overall responsibility for the successful delivery of our consulting projects across the university branches to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality projects with an impact on our NFP clients. GCG offers strategy consulting engagements on a semi-annual basis across the branches with oversight from the HQ Consulting team. The purpose of the HQ Consulting team is threefold: To ensure our projects are as impactful as possible and focused on creating genuine change in our clients To deliver industry-leading experiences to our project teams and stakeholder partners To drive efficiency within project operations and consistency across the branches The role is a senior leadership position within GCG that sits within the Executive Leadership. The GM Consulting will be supported by a team of working professionals. You will gain experience managing a team of working professionals and be at the forefront of creating a genuine impact within our branches, projects and the NFP sector. You will also have the ability to develop your management consulting, commercial and stakeholder management skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. ABOUT GLOBAL CONSULTING GROUP Global Consulting Group (GCG) is a charity that provides pro-bono consulting services to charities and not-for-profits by connecting university students with experienced professionals. With three branches at Monash University, Melbourne University and the University of NSW, our mission is to provide industry-leading, innovative and pragmatic solutions to address our clients’ most pressing issues by building solid networks between not-for-profits, professionals and students while inspiring, training and empowering future leaders all around the world. We have completed nearly 150 projects with both national and international not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the Consulting teams at both HQ and branch level to ensure alignment with the Consulting strategy and successful delivery of projects Develop and structure key initiatives to be executed by the Consulting team (e.g. drafting a strawman, framework, operating model, etc) Monitor, provide feedback and mentor the Consulting teams to maximise the quality of HQ support and project delivery Facilitate discussions with key stakeholders such as branch leadership, large NFP clients, professional advisors and faculty partners Act as a role model to the Consulting teams and across GCG who is passionate about advancing GCG’s vision and mission and acting with a high degree of ethics in all interactions Involvement in organisation-wide strategy development and presentations to the CEO / GCG Board as required BENEFITS Being the General Manager Consulting is an opportunity to significantly contribute in a pro-bono capacity to an organisation in a leadership capacity with a strong emphasis on leveraging your professional consulting experience. QUALIFICATIONS A minimum of 4 years of management consulting, corporate strategy or equivalent professional experience Tertiary education in commerce, business, finance, management, engineering or equivalent Exceptional commercial problem-solving skills with a track history of leading projects or engagements Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, with a genuine interest in mentorship and personal growth. Articulate, effective and professional communication skills with the ability to communicate internally and externally to senior stakeholders. ROLE EXPECTATIONS We are looking for someone passionate about achieving GCG’s vision and mission, who is aligned with our values and can drive real change across our consulting projects. The successful candidate should demonstrate the following qualities: Responding to queries from the team promptly (as a rough guide, responses should be provided within 24-48 hours). Be able to review work in an adequate time frame (3-7 days). Be highly flexible and adaptable to change Be able to balance multiple stakeholder interests and influence the broader GCG organisation to achieve key goals and outcomes Collaborate with HQ associates, Branch Associates, and partners regularly Estimated total time commitment of 15-20 hours a month (i.e. 4-5 hours per week). Attendance at HQ Consulting team meets with additional meetings to provide 1-1 coaching or guidance for specific projects (on average ~4-6 meetings per month, ~1h each) Attendance at certain AGMs, Board or General meetings (generally held every quarter). Ability to meet with key external stakeholders during the day for significant meetings (~1-2 hours a month).
