Government Affairs Manager
Job Description
This high-profile position will play a pivotal role to develop and implement bp Australia’s Government Relations Strategy to deliver our country strategy, meet the objectives of our diverse businesses, manage risks, and enhance bp’s reputation. The role will suit someone with deep experience engaging with government officials, politicians, trade associations and think tanks – you will be comfortable building coalitions with like-minded stakeholders aligned with bp’s position driving solutions for a successful energy transition. The Role Develop and implement bp Australia’s Government Relations strategy, identifying and managing senior political and regulatory stakeholders. Generate insights on political and policy developments for business leaders and develop plans to position bp effectively. Focus on energy, resources, climate change, environment, and Northern Australia development - analyse policy and regulatory frameworks and contribute to bp Australia’s and its Trade Association’s public policy advocacy plans. Support development and advocate for our, and our trade association, positions with legislative and regulatory bodies. Drive government engagement plans with bp’s senior executives and subject matter experts, and frame action plans for political and policy opportunities and risks. Represent bp’s senior leadership in private meetings and at key events. Optimise engagements with industry regulators and opinion formers. Support issues and crisis management plans, work with communications team. Skills & Experience: Extensive experience in Government relations, policy development, and advocacy. Expertise in multi-jurisdiction major project and policy delivery in regulated industries. Knowledge of Australia’s political landscape, as well as parliamentary / public policy development processes. Ability to coordinate advocacy activities across internal and external boundaries. Excellent networking, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and achieve successful outcomes. Proactive in identifying emerging issues. Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team in a matrixed organization. Travel Requirement: Up to 10% travel should be expected with this role.
