Graduate / Junior Fire Safety Engineering Consultant - Newcastle Do you have an interest in the built environment, the science of fire and combustion or the psychology of human behaviour? Due to Affinity’s substantial growth within the Australian market, Affinity is seeking motivated engineers to fulfil a graduate or junior fire engineer position. As a Graduate or Junior Fire Safety Engineering Consultant, you will proactively support senior engineers with the preparation of fire engineered performance solutions for a range of building types including residential, commercial, retail, aged care, hospitals, theatres, galleries, and industrial developments. You will learn fire engineering principles and science to evaluate compliance with the National Construction Code through means of mathematical calculations, computational modelling, and literature reviews. Your Typical Day Be part of the Newcastle team reviewing plans, researching literature on fire science, and drafting reports with the assistance of senior engineers. Assist with internal reviews of Building Code of Australia, passive fire protection and dangerous good reports. Develop computational fluid dynamic smoke movement and occupant evacuation models using bespoke fire engineering software. Attend site inspections with senior engineers to document the fire engineered controls specified for projects. Collaborate on team meetings and continual development opportunities. Must have a NSW Class C Drivers Licence. Desired Characteristics (Not Essential) Completion or currently enrolled in post graduate studies in fire safety engineering at UQ or WSU. Experience in fire safety engineering programs and calculations (e.g., FDS, Pyrosim, Pathfinder, etc.). Understanding of the National Construction Code, NSW Legislation and Fire Rescue NSW operations. Exposure to on-site operations procedures and inspections.
