Xefco has pioneered a novel plasma technology, called Ausora that provides a sustainable dyeing and finishing solution to eliminate water pollution from textile manufacturing. Ausora has been developed through a long-standing research partnership with Deakin University and is set to bring a disruptive manufacturing solution to the textile industry together a broad range of other potential applications. Job Summary: Xefco’s Plasma Systems R&D is looking for a skilled HV Power Supply Electronics Engineer focussed in the design, build, and testing of high voltage power supplies to join us at Xefco Pilot Facility in Waurn Ponds, Geelong as a key member working alongside a diverse team of multidisciplinary Engineers, Plasma Physicists and Materials Scientists. Reporting to the R&D Manager – Systems, the ideal candidate will be integral to the design, development, and implementation of High Voltage (up to 20kV) AC & DC Power Supplies that power our Ausora Atmospheric Plasma Coating technology. The scope of work in this field includes both the application and improvement on current small-scale and prototype devices moving to our large-scale pilot machines, ultimately furthering the development towards a fully commercialised solution. This will require experience and expertise in power electronics, high voltage circuit design, simulation tools, and safety & regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Design & Development: Develop and optimize high voltage power electronic circuits and systems. Create designs that meet rigorous performance, reliability, and efficiency standards. Utilise design and simulation tools (such as AutoCAD Electrical, SPICE, Spyder, MATLAB/Simulink) to validate and refine designs before prototyping. Fabricate functional and robust prototype devices and systems for application testing. Testing & Validation: Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to evaluate system performance under various operating conditions. Liaise with Plasma Physicists and Material Scientists to conduct rigorous testing to ensure functional success of solution. Analyse test data and troubleshoot issues to iterate on design improvements. Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, technicians, and scientists to integrate high voltage systems into larger projects. Produce detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, component selection, schematics, testing protocols, and safety reports. Communicate findings and updates to stakeholders and management effectively. Participate in project planning and timeline development. Assist R&D Manager – Systems and Engineering Development Manager to derive and implement commercial manufacturing plans. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., EMC, IEC, AS, ISO). Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting high voltage systems. Assist in developing risk mitigation strategies for high voltage applications. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field. 5+ years of graduate experience in designing, fabrication and testing of power electronic systems. Significant experience in the development of High Voltage AC and DC power supplies is essential. Experience with plasma technologies or plasma generation systems highly favourable. Knowledge of direct switching and high frequency circuit design theory strongly regarded. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of high voltage and high frequency circuit design, semiconductor devices, transformers and rectifiers, and power converter topologies. Proficiency in simulation and design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium Designer, or equivalent). Hands on experience with prototyping with SMT components is well regarded. Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Adaptable to fast-paced development methodologies. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and self-manage task workload adhering to wider project timelines and business milestones. Additional Considerations: Australian Right to Work status. May involve occasional domestic and international travel to Xefco offices, vendors and suppliers’ facilities, and project locations. Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory standards related to high voltage systems.
