The Role: Property Services within the Synod of NSW and ACT assists all parts of the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and ACT to manage our properties for purchase, sale, build, lease and maintenance. The team also advises about building management including energy and water efficiency, building compliance, work health and safety property requirements such as fire safety, maintenance, information and records, heritage, valuations and signage. A unique opportunity has arisen for a people-focused Head of Property Services to lead and develop our multi-skilled Property Services team within the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and ACT. Reporting to our General Manager Partnerships, Services, and Delivery in this important role, you will have operational ownership of property management, leasing, disposal, acquisition, development, records management, and maintenance oversight. What you will be doing: Providing expert property advice to the Synod Property Board and the Synod Leadership team to influence decisions with a view to maximising asset performance, whilst understanding the associated risks and rewards in all property matters; Oversee all operational property activities, ensuring efficient and effective day-to-day management and regulatory compliance of the property portfolio and providing guidance on large complex matters and projects. Providing advice that serves to enable presbyteries and congregations to meet both external and church regulation compliance obligations and to promote the mission of the church; Developing and managing the implementation of Property Plans to ensure Synod’s property is fit for purpose in the context of the overall Asset Management Strategy; Reviewing and developing property policies, procedures and processes as they relate to key accountabilities within operations including relevant legislation, regulations, and compliance standards and frameworks; Negotiate property management contracts and other contracts by established criteria to protect the organisation’s interest. Maintain oversight of the general facilities maintenance of the head office building and the Centre for Ministry; What you will need: Tertiary qualifications in Business, Property, or a related field Extensive experience in operational property management Experience in the development and delivery of asset management strategies, plans, or programs Understanding of local and state government planning and development approval processes and requirements Ability to lead, manage, and motivate people in a values-based organisation Extensive senior leadership experience encompassing people, budget, and project management skills and the capacity to achieve challenging outcomes, successfully managing competing priorities, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines A preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia; and Having a genuine willingness to embrace challenges as they arise and to work flexibly in support of the overall key objectives of Synod Mission Services Experience working within a faith-based organisation is highly regarded but not essential About you: Demonstrated experience in engaging well with a diverse stakeholder portfolio with varied needs and priorities Ability and interest in keeping abreast of changes in government legislation to ensure compliance with property frameworks Proven capacity to lead and develop a team, with a commitment to values-based leadership that inspires people to deliver their best Why us: We are a for-purpose organisation, and your work will significantly impact and benefit the Uniting Church’s mission and the wider community.
