Head of Stewarding - Hobart or Launceston The Opportunity On 1 February 2025, a new era for racing in Tasmania will begin when the newly established Tasracing Integrity Unit (TIU), assumes responsibility for Racing Integrity across the State. An exciting opportunity is now available for a highly experienced Head of Stewarding to join the TIU, leading the Stewards Unit. Reporting to the Chief Racing Integrity Officer (CRIO), your extensive racing experience and strong managerial and leadership skills will ensure the Stewards Unit consistently delivers the highest level of operational excellence, strongly focussed on the integrity of races and appropriate animal-welfare related outcomes. Key Responsibilities Oversee the Panel of Stewards ensuring all members deliver best practice in Stewarding. Attend race meetings in a mentoring capacity to provide guidance and support to the Stewards Panel; Chair race meetings as required. Develop and deliver in-house training, and identify external training programs to enhance staff operational expertise. Have oversight of all Stewards Inquiries and Tasmanian Racing Appeals Board matters. Co-ordinate rostering of full-time and casual Stewards, including regional Out of Competition Sampling Operations and Stable & Kennel Inspections. Explore use of modern technology to develop effective bet monitoring and reporting systems. Undertake research and analysis to develop policies to enhance Integrity control and meet probity and animal welfare objectives. Develop a collaborative working relationship with TIU Investigations & Animal Welfare Unit, the Chief Veterinary and Animal Welfare Officer, and other relevant stakeholders. Provide advice to the Chief Racing Integrity Officer on Licensing, Policy, and other matters. About You To excel in this role, you’ll need: Minimum of 10 years' experience chairing race meetings across any code, with comprehensive expertise in the Rules of Racing, race reading and analysis, licensing, wagering, rider/driver safety, and animal welfare. Demonstrated experience in the conduct of inquiries and investigations, preparation of briefs of evidence and appearing before Racing Tribunals and Appeals Boards. High level understanding of relevant Legislation, Policy, and Legal obligations. Advanced managerial and leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and resolve conflict, guide and mentor Stewards, and foster a collaborative work environment. Champion of staff training and development, with the ability to identify skills gaps and identify appropriate training programs and opportunities to ensure all members of the Stewards Unit have the necessary skills and knowledge required to deliver best practice in Stewarding. Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports. Why Join Tasracing?
