Job Description

Location: Port Hedland. Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people. Roster: FIFO - 8/6 The Health and Hygiene Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and hygiene standards at Fortescue, Hedland Operations maintained and compliant with WA Health safety and hygiene regulations. This role will be responsible for conducting injury prevention risk assessments, injury management and return to work programs, monitoring employee health, and liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure Hedland Operations operates within the occupational health standards set by Western Australian legislation. Key Responsibilities Ensure compliance with Western Australian health, safety, and hygiene regulations, including liaison with regulatory bodies. Conduct health risk assessments, focusing on exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals (e.g., Magnetite, Hematite). Develop, implement, and evaluate health and hygiene programs, including employee training on safety and hygiene practices. Oversee the use of PPE and enforce adherence to safety protocols. Implement and manage health monitoring programs for respiratory health, hearing, and long-term impacts of mining exposure. Coordinate injury management and return-to-work programs, ensuring proper workers' compensation reporting. Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed health and hygiene reports for senior management. Serve as the primary point of contact for audits, inspections, and regulatory site visits. Qualifications and Experience Tertiary Qualification in Physiotherapy (AHPRA Registered) - mandatory Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field - desirable Certification in occupational hygiene (e.g., Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists - AIOH) is preferred. First Aid/CPR certification. 5 years of experience in health, hygiene, or safety roles within the mining industry. Strong knowledge of Western Australian health and safety regulations, including mining-specific standards. Experience managing and monitoring occupational health hazards (dust, noise, etc.) on mining sites. Familiarity with mining products such as Magnetite and Hematite and associated health risks. Proficiency in health and safety software for reporting and monitoring. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with regulatory bodies, workers, and management. Ability to work in remote or challenging mine-site conditions. Experience in environmental monitoring and understanding of emergency response processes. About Us Be part of something big.
