Area: City Administration and Governance Branch: Lord Mayors Administration and Engagement Salary Range: Band 6: AUD: $108,005.00 pa - $119,507.00 pa + superannuation (Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions) Work type: Temporary Full-time Duration: March 2026 Location: Brisbane City Hall Our Business One of six divisions in Council, City Administration and Governance plays an important role providing support to the Lord Mayor and Councillors, the Chief Executive Officer and every Council program. In particular, we provide trusted advice to ensure Council’s business is delivered through the provision of effective governance. Our Branch Working in the Lord Mayor’s Administration and Engagement Office is an exciting opportunity where no two days will ever be the same. This is a high-paced environment where you will be managing complex competing priorities and multiple events at the same time. The Protocol and Civic Events Team provides professional support to the Lord Mayor and Councillors in their role as civic leaders of the City, by managing and delivering civic events for the Lord Mayor's Office and providing protocol advice throughout Council. The Role In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management, preparation, and live coordination of all event elements. You will manage and champion the process from start to finish while handling any media or marketing components for these critical events which include, for example, The Lord Mayor's Australia Day Awards, Citizenship Ceremonies, Keys to the City ceremonies, and much more. Your highly developed and demonstrated stakeholder management skills will allow you to represent your team and Brisbane City Council with a high standard of customer service. The Senior Civic Events Officer position requires advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience of protocol knowledge and events management. A function of this role includes the provision of protocol advice, knowledge of escalation steps, and understanding of important local, national, and international protocols. Reporting to the Protocol and Civic Events Manager, you will work closely with your manager and a small team to deliver this essential work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment where this role will contribute to a strong and positive team culture. This role will require flexibility with work after hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required. In remuneration of this, an additional 15% loading is applied in addition to the annualized salary for the overtime requirements of the role. To be successful you will have: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in event management including planning, delivering, and offering continuous improvement suggestions in a wide variety of complex, and occasionally sensitive, civic events. Demonstrated ability to work in a small team to deliver complex and multiple ongoing critical projects and events to a high standard. Demonstrated interpersonal (including verbal and written) communication skills with experience in working with a range of senior stakeholders and a variety of stakeholder groups including providing protocol advice and strong customer service. Demonstrated time management and organization skills to manage competing priorities and prioritization skills to manage urgent requests. Demonstrated ability to support and drive continuous improvement, create a collaborative culture, and support the Team Manager's vision for a high-performing team.
