Prime opportunity to join the Swinburne Indigenous Engagement Portfolio About the Role The Moondani Toombadool Centre is seeking an Indigenous Student Advisor to join the Indigenous Student Services team. In this role, you will coordinate and administer services for students identifying as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander across Higher Education (HE), Vocational Education (VET), Swinburne Online (SOL), and Open Universities Australia (OUA).Your main goal will be to enhance access to tertiary study, improve retention, and promote positive graduate outcomes while supporting the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan and Indigenous Business Action Plans. You will work closely with university staff and provide direct support to students from pre-enrolment through to post-graduate studies, assisting with pathways to further education, employment, and scholarship applications.Additionally, you will monitor student progress, facilitate access to academic and general support services such as maintaining and connecting Indigenous students to the Indigenous Academic Success program (IASP), and both assisting and leading the planning and delivery of a range of cultural events and engagement opportunities for students.About You To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the requirement for proper negotiation and consultation, with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples on matters relevant to the delivery of education services. Experience in providing mentoring and support services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in post-compulsory education and training. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and responsibility, work under a broad level of supervision and perform in a consistently professional manner, including maintaining confidentiality. Qualifications Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in an education/training setting. Completed or working towards tertiary qualifications with a preference for Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Education, Psychology, Community Services etc. About Swinburne University of Technology Swinburne’s strategy draws upon our understanding of future challenges.
