Do you have a passion to support the Tasmanian fruit industry? The Industry Coordinator – Pest and Disease Management position is a 0.8 FTE to full time role whose primary objective is to progress the pest and disease management, biosecurity, technical production and related policy interests of the Tasmanian fruit industry. This represents a key part of the association’s work in seeking to create an environment in which our commercial fruit growers can operate and flourish. We need a motivated self-starter who can relate to growers, governments, other stakeholders and the research fraternity, and work as part of a small team. The successful candidate needs to have the demonstrated ability to develop a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of pest and disease management, biosecurity and production in a Tasmanian fruit industry context, the policy and regulatory frameworks that apply, the implied issues and impacts on commercial fruit growing, as well as be able to communicate these in a clear and concise manner to growers, governments and other stakeholders in both written and oral forms. Fruit Growers Tasmania is a not-for-profit organisation whose primary role is to support the viability, stability and confidence of Tasmanian commercial fresh fruit growers. Fruit Growers Tasmania represents and supports all commercial fruit growing sectors including berries, stone fruit and pome fruit. Core competencies and experience (selection criteria) Highly developed written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and policy issues in a clear and concise manner to growers, governments and other stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to develop a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of fruit pest and disease management, biosecurity and production, the policy and regulatory frameworks that apply, and the implied issues and impacts on commercial fruit growing. Demonstrated ability to work closely with governments and other stakeholders, including through the application for and delivery of grant deeds and research agreements. Demonstrated experience working with agricultural producers to achieve industry outcomes. Demonstrated ability in managing multiple tasks including time, resources, budgets, report writing and submissions. Demonstrated ability to deliver workplans and projects, monitor progress and prepare reports including performance against budgets and milestones, in line with reporting timeframes. Ability to work autonomously on a day-to-day basis. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small team. Relevant experience in pest and disease management, biosecurity and technical (science) fruit production from both a technical and policy perspective would be highly regarded. Permanent residency for Australia or Australian citizenship. Salary: $95-$100,000 (on a full-time basis) plus statutory superannuation, laptop, mobile phone and car park.
