About our team Regional Operations | Ac East | Trade & Travel East | Various East Command has responsibility for the operational delivery of the ABF's mission to protect Australia's border through enabling legitimate trade and travel, as well as through enforcement activities in NSW and ACT. Overview of the Branch and Section Exciting opportunities exist for Inspectors in various work areas across East Command, located in NSW and ACT: Aviation Goods NSW: Responsible for the end to end process and oversight of all air cargo and some sea cargo of interest to the ABF imported or exported through Sydney. Aviation Traveller NSW: Responsible for managing border risks related to the movement of people in the aviation environment. Border Clearance ACT: Responsible for managing risks and threats related to the movement of people and goods in the aviation and cargo space, whilst also being the central ABF contact for enquiries made by the diplomatic community. Container Examination Facility (CEF) and Detained Goods Management (DGM) NSW: CEF is responsible for the inspection and examination of imported and exported sea cargo. DGM is responsible for the security, storage and accountability of detained goods delivered via bond runs from various ABF locations. Chief of Staff (CoS) East NSW: Responsible for managing engagement visits, organising local events and ceremonies, coordinating training needs, providing workforce support and facilitating corporate governance arrangements. International Mail NSW: Conducts screening, examination and intervention activities to facilitate the clearance of legitimate mail, while preventing the import or export of prohibited or restricted items. Maritime Operations NSW: Responsible for managing border risks related to the movement of people and goods in the maritime environment in NSW. Operations and Planning NSW: Provides operational planning and tactical resourcing support to ABF East Command, including management of the casual workforce. The section also links with law enforcement partners who require operational assistance outside of BAU processes. The Supply Chain Integrity Team focuses on the industry who work with goods under customs control, including trusted insiders. Border Intelligence NSW (Specialist positions): Supports operational ABF partners in East region through identifying and addressing border threat. Regional Investigations NSW (Specialist positions): Responsible for providing specialist investigation and enforcement capabilities to detect, disrupt and treat complex border crime and systemic vulnerabilities in the trade and migration systems. Please note: It is expected that Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) vacancies will arise across the ABF in NSW during the validity of the merit pool (18 months from time of advertising). An EL1 Inspector position within East Command provides an exciting and challenging opportunity to work closely with Senior Executive to deliver outcomes for the relevant Command, broader ABF and portfolio. Inspectors at this level are analytical problem solvers and therefore must possess the capabilities to collaborate strategically and innovatively to build working relationships with a range of stakeholders to achieve operational and corporate goals. In addition, Inspectors must strive to build staff capability and nurture talent in order to maintain a productive and motivated workforce. By possessing a strong work ethic, Inspectors must be dedicated to self-development and capitalize on opportunities to extend their skills and knowledge when performing duties at this level. The key duties of the position include An EL1 Inspector would generally be required to: Lead high performing teams, in complex and often high-pressure situations, with rapidly changing priorities, whilst also fostering a positive and engaged work environment. Possess a high level of technical, operational or policy knowledge and experience negotiating favourable outcomes with other work areas. Regional Investigations NSW (Specialist roles) EL1 Investigations Inspectors lead high performing teams and oversee investigations, work with government and law enforcement agencies to share intelligence and contribute to the development of enhanced investigation standards and capability within the ABF. Candidates must have the following attributes: Dynamic leadership in complex and fast-paced operational environments. Strong integrity, ethical standards and personal accountability. Proven ability to foster positive and cohesive teams. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Highly desirable: Certificate IV of Government Investigations (or equivalent) with experience in the conduct of criminal and/or civil investigations. Desirable: Diploma of Government Investigations (or equivalent) with experience in overseeing or supervising the planning and conduct of criminal and/or civil investigations; Use of Force (PDE). ABF Investigations positions may be subject to additional remuneration above the existing base salary; this is subject to specific criteria commensurate to your experience and qualifications. Border Intelligence (BI) (Specialist roles) EL1 Assistant Directors within Border Intelligence NSW lead a team of intelligence analysts undertaking target development and criminal network analysis to deliver intelligence assessments of complex border threats in support of operations of the ABF and partner agencies. Candidates must have the following attributes: Demonstrated experience as an intelligence analyst and leading teams in an Intelligence environment, or a sound understanding of intelligence concepts and tradecraft. Driven, anticipates critical needs and requirements of key partners and works well with others. Disciplined and analytical with logical and lateral critical reasoning, with an ability to oversee or produce complex or sensitive intelligence products. Flexible and able to adapt to changing intelligence priorities in consultation with key stakeholders including internal intelligence and operational teams and partner law enforcement agencies. Ability to perform well under pressure. Evidence-based decision making with attention to accuracy. Self-aware of own strengths and weaknesses. Commitment to developing team capability. Obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance. Additional information Role requirements This position requires the candidate to meet the following requirements: Obtain and maintain essential and role-specific qualifications. Maintain dress and appearance standards according to the Department's uniform policy. Swear an oath or make an affirmation into the ABF (not required for BI role). Actively participate in career management (postings and deployments) (not required for BI role). Attain and maintain relevant medical, fitness and psychometric standards (not required for BI role). Obtain and maintain a valid driver's licence (preferable). In addition, the candidate may be required to meet the following qualifications dependent on the position: Obtain and maintain an ASIC pass. Obtain and maintain a Port of Authority pass. Ability to obtain and maintain a current Use of Force qualification.
