About the position Part-time during term times only. All non-term time is to be taken as unpaid leave. We are seeking an Instrumental Music Instructor - Guitar to provide specialised music instruction to students. The successful candidate will facilitate student learning, support co-curricular ensemble activities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to the vibrant musical culture of the school. This role requires collaboration with colleagues, engagement in school events, and adherence to statutory and legislative requirements. Your primary responsibility will be to teach specialist instrumental music lessons from Early Years to VCE levels. You will encourage and facilitate student progress and learning, fostering a supportive and motivating environment. The successful applicant will ensure that student reports are comprehensive, well-written, and reflective of individual progress and achievements. As the Instrumental Music Instructor - Guitar, you will lead non-academic ensembles and actively participate in school performances, recitals, and concerts, contributing to the musical excellence of the school. You will attend school staff meetings, departmental meetings, and other scheduled gatherings to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the school community. Administrative duties include but are not limited to paperwork, documentation, and communication. Other duties as directed by the Head of Faculty - Arts or Head of Music Junior/Senior School, contributing to the overall success and mission of Girton Grammar School. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated proficiency in playing and teaching one or more musical instruments (Ability to teach Bass Guitar is highly desirable). Prior experience teaching instrumental music to students of varying ages and skill levels. Working with Children Check (Employee) or eligible to apply for one. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students. Knowledge of music theory, sight-reading, and ensemble techniques. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture. Organisational and time management skills to effectively plan. A passion for music education and a dedication to nurturing the musical talents of young musicians. Commitment to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment for all students with an understanding of appropriate behaviours when working with children with diverse needs and backgrounds.
