Trigall Australia is jointly owned by Florimond Desprez, a French multi-crop breeding company, and Bioceres Crop Solutions, an Argentina-based company specialised in agricultural biotechnologies. Trigall Australia’s ambition is to develop and market wheat varieties in Australia. This newly created role will ultimately be based in Australia, but the successful candidate will spend the first 6-12 months training in France and Argentina where they will be trained in early generation germplasm development as well as the coordination of the different breeding programs. Responsibilities of the role include: Conduct the wheat breeding program under direction of the Senior Plant Breeder, which includes the participation to daily breeding works such as crossing, seed preparation, trial planting, scoring, harvesting, data processing and line selection. Implement and execute a molecular marker tool kit enabling marker assisted selection supporting efficient trait selection and variety candidate identification as well as standard quality testing protocols. Under direction, manage the breeding database, including storage backups. Execute and record all MTA’s and agreements relevant to wheat seed shipments and germplasm movements. Represent the Company at wheat industry meetings, including but not limited to ACRCP, NVT, GA meetings and GRDC updates. Actively contribute to the Product Advancement process Support product launch and field day activities, including the supply of technical information to the commercial team Work with Wheat breeders in Argentina, France and Australia to leverage germplasm diversity and breeding tools This role will suit someone at the early stages of their career as a plant breeder. Competence in the French or Spanish language would be a benefit but not essential. The successful candidate will also have: A degree qualification in Agricultural Science or equivalent. Post graduate qualifications in plant breeding or genetics (desirable) Working knowledge of wheat breeding theory, including pathology, grain quality and agronomy. Some knowledge of plant breeding operational requirements of field and seed management processes Ability to develop and implement plans with drive for continuous improvement and optimisation High-level organisational skills and attention to detail Ability to plan and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment. Excellent analytical skills. Strong ability to think critically and make effective decisions in high-pressure environment. You will also be able to satisfy the requirements of an EU working Visa.
