The Opportunity Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Laboratory Leader in our Slabmaking Technology team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers. We are looking for a dynamic leader to join our team and foster a high-performance culture that drives both business and personal growth. Creating a culture of continuous improvement, you will develop and communicate team actions, targets, and KPIs that align with our business strategy, while monitoring progress against plans and budgets. Additionally, you will oversee equipment maintenance schedules and department activities to ensure minimal impact on our service delivery. What Will You Do? Ensuring that our standard procedures are current, easily understood, with a focus on safety and environmental considerations, you will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence, you’ll: Lead the sampling and analysis process to ensure precise, high-quality results. Take ownership of the maintenance and troubleshooting of critical lab equipment. Oversee the preparation of solutions and standards for testing and analysis. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance testing methods and improve overall efficiency. Ensure that internal and external quality system documents are up to date and maintained, supporting our accreditation to NATA and ISO standards. Lead 5 crews (4 shift and one day shift) including roster control and team management for 24x7 laboratory operations. More About You As someone with strong interpersonal skills, you’ll be action orientated, able to guide informed and timely decisions in a collaborative environment, you’ll have: A degree in Chemistry, Science, or a related field. Extensive experience in a chemical lab environment, with advanced knowledge of lab equipment and data analysis. Strong leadership skills with a focus on delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced setting. Proactive, solution-oriented mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement. A demonstrated track record in team leadership, or a strong desire to add team leadership to your skills and experience.
