About the role We are looking for a Lawyer to join our public law team in Canberra working alongside Partner Katherine Armytage on privacy, data and information law matters. You will also have the opportunity to work on rewarding privacy and information law pro bono matters. This is a growing team with a strong and interesting pipeline of work where you could work across the following areas: Drafting privacy advice and privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for our government clients, on nationally important projects; Drafting and reviewing data governance and data sharing agreements and other arrangements; Investigating and helping our clients manage risks associated with data breaches; Providing strategic advice to our government clients on handling highly sensitive freedom of information requests; Assisting our private-sector clients with privacy matters; Preparing and delivering privacy and information law training to our clients; Helping to grow our practice and our reputation as a ‘go-to’ firm for privacy, data and information law matters. The team works collaboratively including with interstate colleagues to come up with innovative and practical solutions for our clients, so they can undertake their projects and implement new initiatives in a way that ensures that the privacy rights of individuals are protected, and privacy expectations of the Australian public are met. About you Ideally you will have: 1-3 years’ experience, ideally in privacy/commercial/administrative law advising government clients; An interest in protecting the privacy of individuals, and in ensuring that governments and other organisations can undertake their functions and activities in a way that meets privacy requirements; A willingness to learn (experience working in areas of privacy, data and/or information law is desirable, but is definitely not required); Good written and oral communication skills; A practical and innovative approach to finding solutions; A desire to work with our close-knit Canberra team.
