Roster: Monday-Friday - Part Time Hours will also be considered. Reporting to the Principal, Technical Services, this role will be responsible for leading hydrogeochemical investigations and providing expert analysis to support critical inland water management projects across Fortescue’s operational sites. You will work with a variety of internal and external technical specialists to develop robust and innovative strategies for managing inland water quality, supporting regulatory approvals and adhering to compliance and sustainability targets. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage inland waters hydrochemical studies related to iron ore and magnetite mining operations in the Pilbara region. Provide expert guidance on water quality assessments, contaminant transport modelling, water treatment strategies, and field monitoring practices. Review and optimise existing management and compliance monitoring programs. Analyse and interpret complex hydrochemical data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement in water management practices. Collaborate with numerical modellers, environmental scientists, engineers and mine planners to develop and implement effective water management strategies for mining operations. Develop and review technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies. Lead the promotion and development of hydrochemistry within Fortescue, including developing and mentoring other team members. Qualifications and Experience A Master’s degree or PhD in hydrochemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, or a related field. Demonstrated relevant experience in inland water hydrochemistry, with a strong background in water resource management, contamination assessment, and environmental monitoring, ideally within the mining or natural resource sectors. Proficiency in hydrochemical modelling, water quality analysis, and contaminant transport modelling in the ground and surface water setting. Experience with water treatment technologies and remediation strategies is highly desirable. Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and permitting processes, particularly in relation to water management in the mining industry. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed technical reports, deliver presentations, and effectively liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders. Experience leading and influencing multidisciplinary teams, with a focus on fostering collaboration and supporting professional development. Familiarity with hydrogeological and geochemical modelling software (e.g., PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, GMS, GoldSim, MODFLOW).
