An APS4 Leading Border Force Officer position within the region provides a unique and challenging opportunity for you to develop compliance, operational, and administrative skills across a range of functions. At this level, Officers must be flexible and adaptable during high-tempo situations, whilst also building positive working relationships with your team and external stakeholders. Duties and responsibilities An APS4 Leading Border Force Officer is accountable and responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of activities, which may include but are not limited to: Under general direction, perform and achieve a range of routine to moderately complex administrative support work within a fast-paced environment. Possess technical competencies to support border enforcement activities such as searching goods or people, conducting patrols, or records of interviews and examining documentation or imported items to manage identified threats to Australia's borders. Build and sustain positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Provide advice regarding professional, technical and specialist skills required for the type of work being performed including application of legislation. Identify and escalate potential risks and recommend appropriate operational responses. Additional information Exciting opportunities exist for Leading Border Force Officers in various work areas across East Command, located in NSW and ACT: Aviation Goods NSW: Responsible for the end-to-end process and oversight of all air cargo and some sea cargo of interest to the ABF imported or exported through Sydney. Aviation Traveller NSW: Responsible for managing border risks related to the movement of people in the aviation environment. Border Clearance ACT: Responsible for managing risks and threats related to the movement of people and goods in the aviation and cargo space, whilst also being the central ABF contact for enquiries made by the diplomatic community. Container Examination Facility (CEF) and Detained Goods Management (DGM) NSW: CEF is responsible for the inspection and examination of imported and exported sea cargo. DGM is responsible for the security, storage and accountability of detained goods delivered via bond runs from various ABF locations. Chief of Staff (CoS) East NSW: Responsible for managing engagement visits, organising local events and ceremonies, coordinating training needs, providing workforce support and facilitating corporate governance arrangements. International Mail NSW: Conducts screening, examination and intervention activities to facilitate the clearance of legitimate mail, while preventing the import or export of prohibited or restricted items. Maritime Operations NSW: Responsible for managing border risks related to the movement of people and goods in the maritime environment in NSW. Operations and Planning NSW: Provides operational planning and tactical resourcing support to ABF East Command, including management of the casual workforce. The section also links with law enforcement partners who require operational assistance outside of BAU processes. The Supply Chain Integrity Team focuses on the industry who work with goods under customs control, including trusted insiders. Please note: It is expected that Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) vacancies will likely arise across the ABF in NSW during the validity of the merit pool (18 months from time of advertising). This position requires the candidate to meet Border Force Officer essential qualifications including: Obtain and maintain essential and role-specific qualifications. Attain and maintain relevant medical, fitness and psychometric standards. Obtain and maintain a valid driver's licence (preferable).
