Overview: 2x Full-time, 4-Year Fixed Term positions available Salary Academic Level B ($110,868 - $131,659 p.a.) + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements Based at RMIT’s Melbourne CBD campus, with potential work at other campuses or industry partner sites as required About the Roles Lecturer in Structural Engineering – Prefabricated Concrete Systems This role will focus on advancing the design, fabrication, and performance of prefabricated concrete structures with an emphasis on structural efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effective construction techniques. The successful candidate will work on an ARC-funded research project and contribute to the development of next-generation high-performance materials and topologically optimized structural designs. Key Responsibilities: Conduct research in prefabricated concrete design, additive manufacturing, and structural optimization. Develop sustainable and eco-friendly fabrication methods to enhance structural performance. Publish high-impact research and attract external research funding. Deliver engaging and innovative teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Supervise higher degree by research (HDR) students in relevant fields. Establish and maintain strong industry collaborations in the field of structural engineering. To be successful for this position, you will have (but are not limited to): PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field. Expertise in concrete material behavior, structural design, and manufacturing processes. Experience with topological optimization and digital fabrication techniques (e.g., 3D concrete printing). Strong research track record, including publications in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals. Ability to deliver impactful teaching and develop curriculum content aligned with industry needs. Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering – Timber and Composite Structures This role will focus on fire safety performance in timber and composite structures, with a particular emphasis on large-scale fire testing, fire dynamics, and computational modelling. The successful candidate will support a major ARC-funded project investigating fire-resistant engineered timber systems for sustainable construction. Key Responsibilities: Conduct research on fire safety engineering, fire testing, and timber composite behaviour under fire conditions. Conduct mid- to large-scale fire testing and contribute to the development of fire-resistant construction materials. Utilise fire dynamics simulators and computational models to assess fire spread and mitigation strategies. Teach and develop course materials in fire safety engineering and civil engineering disciplines. Supervise HDR students and provide mentorship for emerging researchers. Engage with industry partners and regulatory bodies to enhance fire safety standards. To be successful for this position, you will have (but are not limited to): PhD in Fire Safety Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Science, or a related field. Expertise in fire testing, fire dynamics, and performance-based fire safety design. Experience in numerical modelling of fire behaviour using computational tools (e.g., Fire Dynamics Simulator). Strong publication record in fire safety research and related fields. Ability to develop and deliver high-quality teaching materials in fire engineering and related subjects.
