Full-time; continuing Academic Level B - $106,593 - $125,774 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas. About the opportunity The Lecturer, Data Science, will be responsible for teaching Data Science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across multiple delivery modes, as well as contributing to curriculum development and coordination of the suite of data science programs in the College. The Lecturer, Data Science will demonstrate an excellent research track record in any area of statistics and/or data science that complements the College of Science and Engineering’s strategic commitment to digital innovation through undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Data Science, IoT, and IT. A capacity to engage effectively with local, national, and international industry and government agencies to identify and develop opportunities for innovation-driven partnerships is also inherent to the position. What you can bring to the role A PhD qualification or equivalent in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline. Strong understanding of theories underpinning data science and demonstrated application of statistical learning and/or deep learning methods. Demonstrated capacity to coordinate and teach undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in statistics and data science in on-campus, flexible, and online delivery modes. Evidence of an established research track record, including interdisciplinary collaboration and effective supervision of postgraduate/higher degree by research (HDR) students. Demonstrated success or capacity to attract competitive research funding. Capacity to establish an independent research program which involves collaborating across disciplinary, institutional boundaries and/or industry. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated capacity to communicate technical concepts in statistics and data science to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to contribute to outreach and marketing activities that promote relevant university business. Why JCU?
