Lecturer in Mathematical Philosophy - University of Sydney Start: 20 Nov 2019End: 08 Jan 2020 Location: University of Sydney School: School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry Faculty: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Sydney Reference no: 2504/1119C Position Overview: Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Mathematical Philosophy. This is a full-time, continuing position at Level B (roughly equivalent to a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the U.S.). Responsibilities: Develop theories and methods in mathematics, logic, or other areas of the formal sciences and their application to philosophical questions and problems. Teach from introductory through to advanced undergraduate levels in relevant areas (e.g., mathematical logic, probability theory, decision theory, formal semantics, philosophy of language, or epistemology). Develop new units of study as needed. Supervise Honours, Masters, and PhD students. Pursue an active research programme, produce high-quality publications, and contribute to the department's research culture. Contribute to teaching at all levels and undertake appropriate administrative roles and curriculum development. About You: PhD in a related area of philosophy. Research expertise in Mathematical Philosophy, demonstrated through high-quality publications. Active research program with potential for future publication in highly regarded peer-reviewed international journals and presses. Experience as a philosophy teacher at the tertiary level. Capacity for high-quality teaching in a range of areas relevant to Mathematical Philosophy. Capacity to supervise Honours and postgraduate students. Capacity to contribute to curriculum development. Capacity to undertake academic administrative roles. Collegial approach and capacity for successful teamwork.
