Avant's Medico-legal Advisory Service (MLAS) provides expert advice to help minimise the chance of a complaint or claim occurring. Due to the consistent growth Avant Mutual has experienced in recent years, we’re expanding our MLAS teams across Australia to ensure we can continue to provide an excellent service to our members. For this reason, we are seeking an experienced health lawyer to join Avant Law as a Legal Team Manager and lead one of our two national MLAS teams. This role would be well suited to candidates with 8+ PQE years who are at Senior Associate or Special Counsel level and who have supervisory or people management experience. This role can be based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide or Sydney . We are open to both full-time and part-time (4 day) candidates and offer a hybrid working arrangement. The key responsibilities include: Member of the management team for the MLAS, overseeing the operational functions of the service and providing input into strategic planning. Day-to-day management and support of a team of experienced medico-legal solicitors based across Australia, including after-hours where required. Delivery of high quality, timely legal advice and support to Avant’s members. Providing first-class telephone and written medico-legal advice to members. Providing support to the Avant Law and claims teams and other staff on medico-legal and health law matters. Giving presentations to members and staff and writing website content, articles and other member communications on relevant topics. To be successful in this role you will have: Relevant tertiary legal qualifications. Eligible to hold a practising certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia. Demonstrated post admission experience in health law is preferred. Supervisory or people management experience. The ability to express ideas effectively with proven excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of prioritisation, time management and self-management skills.
