Reporting to the Group Maintenance Manager , this role is responsible for leading maintenance operations across Mackay Sugar’s three factories, cane rail, and rolling stock functions to ensure plant efficiency, safety, and reliability while driving continuous improvement initiatives. More specifically, your responsibilities will include: Leading maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution to maximise plant availability and efficiency Overseeing maintenance teams, mentoring staff, and fostering a high-performance culture Driving workplace health, safety, and environmental compliance across all maintenance operations Managing contractors and coordinating maintenance-related projects to meet budget, safety, and timing targets Implementing proactive asset care strategies to optimise plant performance and reduce downtime Developing and managing maintenance budgets, ensuring cost control and financial efficiency Overseeing shutdowns, maintenance days, and capital works to align with operational needs Supporting production teams by providing engineering expertise and technical assistance Ensuring maintenance processes align with Mackay Sugar’s Operational Excellence framework Monitoring completed work to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards Driving a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to enhance maintenance outcomes To read the full position description, please click here. What You’ll Bring to the Team Essential Qualifications & Experience Trade background preferred, but candidates with senior-level maintenance experience in relevant industries will be considered Experience in fixed plant environments such as steel mills, factories, or heavy industrial settings Demonstrated experience in leading maintenance teams, ideally with 5+ direct reports and larger indirect teams Strong leadership experience, including the ability to manage workplace dynamics and multiple strong personalities at leadership levels Change management experience – proven ability to navigate and drive change in a complex environment Desirable Qualifications & Experience Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Background in sugar mills or similar manufacturing environments Understanding of maintenance budgeting and cost control Mackay Sugar is currently going through a period of change, as such this role requires a resilient, adaptable leader with strong people management, leadership, and problem-solving skills .
