Maintains and repairs building and equipment. Stops production when machines are not running effectively, troubleshoots the problem, and finds solutions for issues quickly. This position will be carried out in accordance with all company policies and procedures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage start-up to make sure equipment is in proper operating condition. Work in a professional manner producing quality work comparable to a licensed contractor. Diagnosing equipment defects and making necessary repairs in a timely manner. Maintain, repair and troubleshoot machinery, lift trucks, and other facility equipment problems as needed for production issues and efficiency. Safely operate various machines, including a Band Saw, Bench Grinder, Hand Grinder, Drill Press, and other shop equipment. Inspect machines and equipment for conformance with operational and safety standards. Maintain all areas of the shop and the interior/exterior of the plant to food safety standards. Troubleshoot electrical problems and functions (i.e. motors, controls, basic wiring, rooftop A/C units and processing equipment using standard test equipment to the failed component level). Read and understand electrical drawings and schematics, make repairs and upgrades to equipment using drawings and standard test equipment. Read and understand mechanical drawings and use them to make repairs to equipment and fabricate mechanical structures as called out in drawings. Confers with management and suppliers to resolve maintenance problems and recommends measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment. Complete Preventative Maintenance tasks as assigned. Assist with inventory control of tools and parts on hand. Proficiently operate forklift, pallet jack, battery-changer and stock picker as well as plant owned outside tractors and equipment. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) training, along with company pre-requisite programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP’s). Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Safety: Perform all duties within OSHA and company safety standards; LOTO, wear PPE and maintain safety equipment. Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area. Immediately report all accidents and deficiencies to the lead/foreman/supervisor/manager. Ensure safety devices are installed and working properly. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required Education: High school diploma or GED Required Experience: 1 year or more of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment. Industrial maintenance experience. Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics. Knowledge of electrical/mechanical equipment. Knowledge of general safety practices. Prior Knowledge of food processing equipment. Electrical troubleshooting of 120/240/480 3ph systems. Some troubleshooting PLC and frequency drives. Welding (SMAW, MIG and TIG). REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES: Proven attention to detail demonstrated in a fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of NEC and ability to install electrical services and devices following the guidelines. Proficient in Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrate effective leadership, problem solving, and facilitation, presentation, and employee motivational skills. Ability to write routine breakdown, preventive maintenance and other maintenance related reports and correspondence. Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Knowledge of the materials, tools, methods, and techniques used in the mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic trades. Self-motivated, able to work unsupervised and with teams. Project oriented. Multi-tasking ability. The work environment is a plant/office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet/slippery floors. Much of this job is conducted in a climate-controlled building. However, this job does include going on the roof and maintaining the grounds during inclement weather. Travel to other facilities may be required.
