About the Port The Port of Townsville Limited (the Port) has been actively shaping the future of Townsville and North Queensland for almost 160 years. Today, we are Australia’s largest port for zinc, lead, copper, sugar and fertiliser. Additionally, we handle more motor vehicles and containerised goods than any other port in Northern Australia. The goods that flow through our ports are grown, mined, manufactured and used to better the lives of more than 800,000 people across a vast catchment area, spanning from Hinchinbrook to the Burdekin and west to Mount Isa. On average, more than 7.5 million tonnes of goods, worth more than $11.4 billion, cross our wharves each year. Thanks to our customers, we are one of the country’s most diverse ports, linking more than 30 different commodities to 130 ports in 44 countries. About the role and you The primary purpose of the Manager Maintenance & Renewals position is to lead and manage the execution of maintenance programmes, asset inspections, and renewals to ensure optimal asset performance, safety, and compliance. This role focuses on operational excellence by embedding asset management practices, collaborating with engineering teams, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and efficiency. This role drives alignment between short term operational requirements and long-term strategic goals while integrating ISO 55001 standards into daily practices to enhance asset lifecycle performance. As the Manager Assets and Maintenance you will: Maintenance Execution & Asset Management Develop and implement planned maintenance programmes, ensuring efficient work planning, scheduling, and minimal operational disruption. Conduct regular asset inspections, integrating findings into the Asset Management System (AMS) for engineering review. Execute routine, reactive, and renewal maintenance activities in collaboration with Engineering, adhering to technical guidelines. Optimise operations using predictive analytics, preventive strategies, and efficient inventory management. Project & Programme Management Oversee engineering projects and programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives. Maintain expenditure forecasts and milestones, providing regular progress updates. Coordinate resource allocation and prioritisation for optimal project delivery. Ensure seamless project handovers by collaborating with Engineering and other relevant teams. Leadership & Workforce Management Supervise internal teams and contractors, ensuring safety and compliance adherence. Lead teams to deliver asset management outcomes, fostering accountability, collaboration, and a high-performance culture. Promote a Zero Harm safety culture and drive proactive risk management practices. Facilitate change management initiatives, ensuring effective integration of new asset management processes and tools. Engineering & Technical Collaboration Partner with Engineering on complex maintenance tasks and technical challenges. Provide feedback on recurring issues to support long-term engineering strategies. Establish cross-functional teams to address critical projects and operational improvements. Align maintenance activities with asset lifecycle strategies and strategic business goals. Compliance, Governance & ISO 55001 Certification Ensure governance frameworks and audits align with ISO 55001 certification requirements. Integrate AMS processes into operations, providing real-time performance insights and optimising cost efficiency. Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to balance operational needs with regulatory compliance and long-term asset sustainability. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement Drive operational excellence by linking team activities to organisational goals. Promote a structured approach to safety leadership through Pre-starts/Toolbox LEAN boards. Leverage maintenance insights and engineering innovation to enhance asset performance. Oversee risk management and performance optimisation strategies to ensure continuous improvement in asset management practices. Operational Standard: Any other duties as directed by Line Leader. Contribute to the Port’s strategic plans including the Statement of Corporate Intent, Corporate Plan and Port Vision 2050. Ensure appropriate health and safety, environmental management, quality and information security practices are implemented for all works to comply with the Port’s policies and relevant legislation. Comply with all relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards. Promote a Zero Harm culture and continual improvement in our Health and Safety management and performance. Experience you’ll need To be successful in the role, you will require: Tertiary qualifications in engineering, business management or a related discipline. Certification or training in Change Management (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR) or equivalent experience leading organizational change and transformation. Current Queensland C class driver’s license. Extensive experience in leading teams, with a strong focus on staff development, performance management, and fostering collaboration across departments. Proven ability to lead significant organisational changes, with experience in managing resistance and ensuring the adoption of new systems and processes. Understanding of asset management practices and frameworks (e.g., ISO 55001), with experience collaborating with SMEs to achieve technical and strategic outcomes. Ability to align daily operations with long-term business objectives, ensuring that team efforts contribute to overall organisational goals. Experience implementing governance frameworks, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Familiarity with using data-driven insights and technology to improve decision-making, asset performance, and operational outcomes. Strong commitment to safety leadership, with experience in promoting a Zero Harm culture and managing critical risk processes.
