The Manager - Automation plays a key role in providing both people and technical leadership to a high-performing team, driving innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the broader Hardware Engineering department. This role is responsible for fostering a culture of technical excellence and leadership, applying talent management and succession planning strategies to develop technical skills and strengthen organizational capability. The Manager - Automation ensures that the team operates as a highly engaged, motivated, and results-driven engineering group. This role oversees automation initiatives across Hardware Engineering, including AI-driven efficiencies, test automation, test tooling, robotics, and process enhancements. A key focus is on building deep technical expertise within the broader Automation and Algorithms team. Success in this role requires collaborating closely with engineering technical specialists, systems engineering, verification & validation (V&V), and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality automation solutions that meet business needs. Let’s Talk About Responsibilities As Manager - Automation, you will: Provide leadership in shaping the technical direction of automation initiatives Develop and maintain the processes, tools, and systems necessary to enable scalable AI/automation solutions Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that enhance our ability to deliver high-quality medical devices Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure automation solutions align with project and discipline needs Define and track key metrics, providing regular reports and insights to engineering leadership Champion continuous improvement and drive initiatives that elevate engineering excellence Ensure compliance with quality management systems and other regulatory requirements Invest in team growth by providing development opportunities, coaching, and regular feedback to help team members reach their full potential Support workforce planning efforts to ensure the right resources and expertise are in place Develop and implement engineering frameworks and strategies that align with business goals, while adopting emerging technologies to enhance team capabilities Foster a strong, positive team culture in alignment with the department’s values Let’s Talk About Qualifications and Experience Required: Tertiary degree in Engineering Experience in the full product development lifecycle Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience Minimum of 2 years in a people management role Preferred: Experience in automation and/or AI Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms Experience working in regulated industries Medical device industry experience This role isn’t just about managing a team—it’s about building a dynamic, innovative, and engaged engineering group.
