About the role The Onboarding and Connections Division manages the connection process in the National Electricity Market (NEM). It collaborates with transmission and distribution providers to support developers and manufacturers through generation, storage, and load application, registration, and commissioning phases. The division recommends projects for NEM registration and commercial operation, providing guidance on connection requirements and necessary materials. In this dynamic role, you'll collaborate closely with network service providers to support developers and manufacturers through generation, storage, and load application, registration, and commissioning phases. Leading a motivated team, you'll tackle power system challenges and drive integration of emerging renewable energy and storage technologies. We're seeking a collaborative leader energized by building partnerships with key stakeholders while ensuring proactive problem solving and transparent decision making. This permanent, full-time position is available across multiple locations, including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth – in addition to offering flexible work from home arrangements. What you will be doing Lead transformative technical collaboration with clients and the energy industry, ensuring proactive problem solving and transparent decision-making. Manage resources across various generator, storage, and load connection projects, addressing evolving technical challenges. Provide expert technical advice in performance standards, power system stability, and registration and commissioning. Mentor and guide technical staff, encouraging innovation and new approaches. Shape a vision for integrating diverse generation and storage technologies into the NEM. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, enhancing AEMO’s reputation as a trusted partner. What you will bring to the role Proven experience in building and managing engineering/technical teams with a proactive, ownership-driven culture. Extensive experience in generator connection processes and resolving power system performance issues. Strong negotiation skills for resolving complex technical issues among diverse stakeholders. Understanding of commercial and legal factors affecting large-scale infrastructure projects and generation developers. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences. Knowledge of the electricity industry, NEM dispatch processes, generator behaviour, and network constraints.
