The role: We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic leader for the role of Manager, Governance and Integrity. In this role, you will oversee a multi-disciplinary team responsible for governance, risk management, information management, and audit functions, working collaboratively across the organisation to ensure that Council achieves its strategic objectives. As a senior leader at Whitehorse City Council, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's future direction over the next six months, ensuring governance processes are robust, transparent, and aligned with the needs of the community. Reporting to the Executive Manager Corporate Services, you will be responsible for promoting and leading contemporary best practices in governance, risk management, compliance, and integrity. You will act as the Council's Integrity Lead, ensuring the highest standards of integrity and accountability across all aspects of the organisation. Additionally, you will engage with the CEO, Councillors, and other senior leaders to manage governance processes and provide expert guidance on complex governance and compliance matters. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the portfolios of Risk and Assurance, Governance, Information Management, and CEO & Councillor Support. Promote strong corporate and information governance, risk management, and compliance across the organisation. Serve as the Integrity Lead, overseeing Public Interest Disclosures and managing complaints in relation to conduct. Provide strategic oversight to the Audit & Risk Management Committee and Internal Audit functions. Foster a culture of transparency and openness in Council decision-making and maintain high standards of governance. Work in partnership with the CEO and Councillors to manage governance processes and ensure smooth resolution of issues raised by Councillors or the community. Develop and implement strategies, policies, and initiatives that contribute to Council’s broader strategic objectives. Champion and Lead Change with Technology projects within the department. About you: To be considered for this position you will have: Extensive experience in governance, risk, audit, information management, and legislative compliance, with a sound understanding of the relevant frameworks and legislation. A proven ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team, with experience driving strategic direction and aligning team objectives with broader organisational goals. Strong political astuteness and the ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues within a dynamic and often challenging political environment. High-level analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the capacity to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience producing high-quality reports, presenting to senior stakeholders, and representing the organisation at professional and community forums. Demonstrated experience in managing complex, confidential, and sensitive situations with sound judgement and discretion. A commitment to upholding high standards of integrity, fairness, and transparency in all your actions. An understanding of the evolving Local Government context and an ability to contribute to the development of Council’s vision, strategic direction, and goals.
