About the role The Systems Manager is a “hands-on” role responsible for the leadership of resources and the maintenance of systems specific to Vocus Operational Technology. Reporting directly to the Head of Network Operations, this role is key to ensuring that all systems supporting the Vocus network are functioning as expected. Your demonstrable experience within a telco operational environment will be a key to success in this role. The successful candidate will be managing a small team of highly skilled and experienced professionals who look after a broad range of Operational Systems infrastructure. You will be focused on building a positive culture where internal and external resources are engaged and aligned to the strategy to achieve prioritised operational outcomes. The role will oversee the allocation of team members to various infrastructure projects and be responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining the best team to deliver Vocus current and future business objectives, for example, by: Ensuring clarity of expectations for individuals and team. Providing coaching for growth and success to build individual and team capability. Demonstrating commitment to workplace health and safety through active involvement and implementation of the Vocus WHS and Injury management procedures. You will need to be able to effectively participate in and manage the recruitment of new staff as well as the performance management and development of existing staff, ensuring high performers are rewarded and low performances are addressed quickly. You will need to create and maintain individual training and development plans for all team members and identify and manage resources and skill sets as needed. This will involve maintaining a critical skills matrix for core skills and as input to the personal development and training requirements of all team members. You will be expected to work with other teams and partners to demonstrate thought leadership in bringing new ways of working into Vocus. Applicants must hold current Australian citizenship status to meet governmental criteria for NV1 Baseline Clearance, which is essential for this role. Key Technologies Vocus operates large scale distributed Internet Service Provider infrastructure domestically and internationally. Operational Systems infrastructure includes Mail, DNS, Accounting, Authorisation & Authentication (RADIUS & TACACS+). There is a mixed Windows and Linux operating environment. Network Monitoring and Metric Collection - SNMP, NNM, Zenoss, SolarWinds with Grafana Dashboards. CPE configuration management via TR069. Orchestration platforms including Cisco NSO and Blue Planet MDSO. Virtual Server Configuration Management – Puppet. Patch and Vulnerability Management. Database Management - MySQL. About You Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline e.g IT, Computer science, computer engineering. Experience leading a team. Experience with regional or global communications/network systems. Exceptional organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and multitask; whilst dealing with ambiguity. Proven authentic people leader, with experience in building and leading a geographically dispersed team. Experience managing Systems Administration and Operations resources. Experience managing Development resources focused on BAU bug / break fix activities. Demonstrable experience managing 3rd party Infrastructure Service providers and driving vendor performance. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering procedures for proactive system design, capacity planning, maintenance, and life cycle management. Demonstrated experience in setting up, managing, and reporting on system monitoring platforms, including service monitoring and performance monitoring. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to communicate up to Director level. Team oriented, customer focused, approachable, proactive, and pragmatic self-starter with a strong drive for results. Developed understanding of network security standards, processes, and protocols. Deep understanding of technology and management, including systems administration and application development. Industry recognised qualifications in technology. Highly developed stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels with demonstrated ability to manage crucial and or challenging conversations and drive outcomes. Approachable and strong negotiator, problem solver. Extensive experience in leading delivery teams including distributed teams. Experience in project delivery across multiple platforms. Interpersonal skills with ability to inspire and motivate teams. Work collaboratively and autonomously.
