What is the role? The Strategy and Performance Office (SPO) is seeking suitably qualified candidates at the SES band 1 level to perform the following roles: Manager Policy & Strategy, and Manager Program Planning, Innovation and Reporting. Additionally, this process will be used to create a merit pool of candidates who are suitably qualified to undertake the variety of roles in the AFP’s Strategy and Performance Office noting current and expected vacancies. Those additional branches include: Strategy and Policy Coordination Governance and Secretariat What will you do? The Strategy and Performance Office is responsible for: Setting strategic priorities and direction for the AFP, cognisant of current, emerging and future issues affecting the AFP across a range of topics including policing and national security matters. Supporting strategic planning to deliver on the Commissioner’s strategic intent. Managing key internal strategic boards and senior executive forums, including overseeing governance and providing comprehensive secretariat services. Influencing whole of government policy initiatives impacting the AFP and broader law enforcement community (including informing key decision making through Federal Budget, Cabinet and legislative reform processes). Coordinating whole of agency engagement with government, parliament and external public service stakeholders. Managing the AFP Commissioner’s engagement in key strategic external forums dealing with policing and criminal justice matters. Ensuring whole of enterprise governance and accountability requirements are met (including through corporate reporting, internal audit, and risk management and assurance). Identifying and driving performance improvement including by measuring organisational performance (qualitative and quantitative) and providing strategic advice to the AFP Executive. Minimum Requirements: Must be an Australian Citizen; Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance (or the ability to obtain one); For the Manager Ministerial and Forums role, this should include a law degree or extensive experience and knowledge specific to this role including legislative design and development, management of key stakeholders and an understanding of Parliamentary practice and procedure; For the Manager Program, Planning, Innovation and Reporting, this should include relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive experience in program and project management, governance and management of key stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team; Proven ability to work in a fast-paced tempo; Demonstrated capability in line with SES Band 1 Work Level Standards. Additional Requirements Is willing and able to deliver results in compressed timeframes and tackle complex issues in a dynamic environment; Is capable, energetic and resilient in navigating uncertainty and constantly changing priorities; Can cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, work collaboratively at all levels, and maximise engagement opportunities with partner agencies and jurisdictional partners; Has superior analytical skills, able to harness information, and identify innovative approaches to achieving the AFP’s strategic intent; Has advanced communication skills, focused on clearly articulating key issues and negotiating outcomes that advance the AFP’s position; and Understand the role of the AFP in the Australian and international policing context, and broader law enforcement and national security environment.
