Position Summary: As a Medical Education and Communications Manager within our Medical Affairs team, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic dissemination of scientific information and the development of medical education initiatives. This newly created position is essential to ensuring healthcare professionals (HCPs) are well-informed about the clinical benefits and safe use of our therapies. Reporting to the Country Medical Lead, you will collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Market Access, and Regulatory teams to support the successful introduction of this first in class treatment. The Medical Education and Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive medical education strategy to enhance internal and external communications. Working closely with Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access and Regulatory teams, this role will ensure consistency in messaging and alignment with compliance standards while supporting HCP engagement through high-quality scientific programs.You will play a key role in developing educational content, facilitating advisory boards and symposia, and ensuring that scientific communications are clear, accurate, and impactful. This position will also support internal teams with training initiatives and ensure the effective dissemination of clinical trial data and key product messages.Working alongside the Country Medical Lead, the successful candidate will set and deliver against defined performance-based metrics, own and drive an ambitious launch plan, as well as foster collaboration with other personnel at Apellis both locally and globally, to ensure enterprise wide success. Key Responsibilities Include: Drive Medical Education Excellence: Lead the development and execution of impactful medical education initiatives that enhance scientific understanding and engagement. Strategic Thinking: Develop and implement a high-quality medical education strategy that ensures accurate and effective dissemination of key scientific insights. Inspire Engagement: Foster an environment of collaboration and knowledge-sharing, effectively communicating the medical education vision across the organisation and with external stakeholders. Innovate in Medical Communications: Champion new approaches to medical education by leveraging innovative formats, digital tools, and multi-channel engagement strategies. Measure Performance: Monitor the effectiveness of educational initiatives, ensuring alignment with key performance metrics and making data-driven improvements. Multi-Channel Delivery: Develop and execute educational content through diverse platforms, including face-to-face events, digital learning, and interactive programs to optimise HCP engagement. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Medical, Commercial, and Regulatory, to ensure consistency and accuracy in medical messaging and program execution. Scientific Expertise: Maintain a high level of proficiency in disease state and treatment landscape knowledge to ensure credible and effective medical education delivery. Compliance and Governance: Ensure adherence to all compliance, legal, and regulatory requirements in the development and execution of medical education initiatives. Education, Registration & Certification: Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, or a related field. Medicines Australia accreditation Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in Medical Affairs, Medical Education, or Medical Communications within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry Prior experience supporting product launches and medical education initiatives is an advantage Experience in ophthalmic disease or medical retina is desirable but not essential Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong background in medical education, scientific communication, or medical affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance related to medical education and scientific exchange. Proven ability to develop high-quality educational content and facilitate scientific meetings. Experience in managing complex interactions with senior stakeholders and the ability to influence effectively. An entrepreneurial mindset with the drive to embrace innovation and develop creative, yet well-reasoned, solutions to business challenges. Proficiency in utilizing data sources and insights to shape medical education strategy and content development. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to work collaboratively across functions, ensuring alignment between medical, commercial, and regulatory teams. Strong communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
