As a DCJ Multicultural Child Protection Caseworker, you will build relationships and appreciate the importance of children to our future. We will support and help you to develop your career. About the role As a Multicultural Caseworker, you will respond to reports about children or young people who may have been harmed or where there are safety concerns. The first priority is always the safety, welfare and wellbeing of the children or young person. You will work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people, and work collaboratively with other agencies to develop safety plans and complete risk assessments. Multicultural Caseworkers use their cross-cultural skills and expertise to assist families from a range of backgrounds. This role targets new migrant and refugee communities settling across the district, and relevant language skills would be desirable, however are not essential. Multicultural Caseworkers support families by providing: Cultural Consultations – supporting families from their target communities Secondary Casework – for families from their target community Language Support – Multicultural caseworkers in roles targeting a specific community are invited to undertake a CLAS (Community Language Assistance Scheme) test and if accredited, are able to support simple communication with families, and will receive an annual allowance in addition to their salary. This is not an essential requirement of the role. To be a Multicultural Child Protection Caseworker you need to be confident, curious and resilient. You will bring a commitment to working collaboratively with multicultural children, families and communities including Aboriginal and diverse cultures. The essential requirements include: Preferred Completed or in your final semester of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Social Science and Welfare along with practical experience.
