About you We are looking for a passionate, self-motivated, qualified & experienced Building Surveyor to join our Building Services team. You will: Hold a current qualification and accreditation as a building surveyor, including current registration as a building practitioner. Have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. Hold a current driver’s licence. Hold tertiary or industry-based training/qualifications. Demonstrate commitment to teamwork and the ability to contribute as a team member. Have a high level of computer literacy with experience using organisation-wide systems including MS Office applications, customer request and document storage platforms. About the role Permanent Full-time position Competitive and negotiable salary package The key objectives for this position are: Deliver a range of quality building regulatory services. Interpret, inform and implement building legislation, regulation and Council policy. Issue building permits and certificates in accordance with relevant Acts and Regulations and Council policies. Assess Occupancy Permits and approvals for Places of Public Entertainment. Conduct assessment and approval of Report and Consents as delegated by Council. Set up processes and implement an effective mechanism to meet legislative requirements relative to maintenance of essential safety measures in industrial/commercial and residential accommodation type buildings within the municipality with an emphasis on establishing and maintaining a register of all buildings to be inspected ensuring that high risk buildings are given priority. Source and instigate methods by which the public, trader groups and building owners can be better educated as to their rights and obligations in relation to essential safety measures and other building legislative requirements. Advise property owners about building and community safety issues, such as swimming pools and smoke detectors. Provide expert professional advice to external parties on all building control and regulation issues, as they relate to the Municipality. Respond to community complaints about building matters, including illegal and dangerous building structures. Issue building notices/orders/infringement notices where necessary and, in consultation with the Manager Planning and Statutory Services, take appropriate legal action where building owners do not comply to the notice/order. Ensure Council is represented in a professional manner at appeals, meetings and tribunals etc. Mandatory Checks and Pre-employment Requirements 2 x Reference Checks Current Driver's Licence National Police Check Interested?
