Job Description

Salary: 115,000 to 120,000 -pro rata based on experience (plus super) This is a woman only position under s 34 (1) of the Discrimination ACT 1991 which does not make it unlawful for a person to discriminate against someone else on the grounds of sex in relation to a position as an employee, contract worker etc, if it is a genuine occupational qualification for the position. CRCC offers a flexible and generous salary packaging plan resulting in the option of accessing fringe benefit payments. Special Conditions This is a designated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position under 42 (2) of the Discrimination Act 1991. Clinical supervision and cultural supervision will be provided. Occasional attendance at sector meetings, some evening events will be required. Child protection legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to undertake employment screening including a Police check and a valid WWVP or willingness to obtain one. There will be a 3 month probation period. The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) CRCC is a non-government feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. The organisation is engaged in raising awareness about sexual violence, fostering partnerships with key agencies and across sectors which contribute to addressing the structural causes of violence, improving justice responses and building an integrated service system which better supports women, young people, children and men impacted by sexual violence. CRCC works collaboratively within service provision systems in the ACT and surrounding area to provide services and programs to people and communities affected by sexual violence. CRCC is committed to excellence in service provision, access and equity, diversity and social justice. The Nguru Program is funded to provide direct services including support, information and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members who have experienced sexual violence and other service providers. Nguru works closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in planning, developing and implementing community education, community development and capacity building projects which address issues related to sexual violence. Summary of responsibilities The Nguru Program is coordinated to provide increased community awareness and ability to respond to the impacts of sexual violence within the community. The Nguru Manager will: Provide a range of services including support, information, referrals, training, education and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced sexual violence, and other services. Build and foster relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and other relevant agencies and organisations to promote CRCC services and increase the Nguru Program public awareness within the broader ACT region. Be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating plans for the Nguru Program, to also include reporting and record management. Work under limited supervision supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations and provide guidance and information to other CRCC workers to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients are offered culturally appropriate services. Develop and provide education and training about issues relating to sexual assault/abuse to mainstream, both non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies and communities. Provide support, coaching and mentoring to the Nguru Program staff members. Lead the Nguru Program Team and ensure efficiency of operational requirements. Build and maintain a healthy and safe working environment, identifying potential and actual risks to safety and wellbeing and taking appropriate mitigating actions. Qualifications Required Tertiary qualification in Counselling or relevant experience in the field. A current Working with Vulnerable People Card. A genuine commitment and interest in working in a community-based feminist organisation. Key Tasks Develop and maintain external network relationships. Develop and deliver sexual assault specific training packages to the ACT community. Provide consultation, support and referrals to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups to increase awareness of the impacts of sexual assault. Participate actively in relevant community networks, inter-agencies and focus groups and relevant CRCC staff and team meetings. Develop and deliver training packages to increase cultural competence within CRCC and external organisations and provide ongoing mentoring relationships with CRCC staff and other agencies on request. Develop partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal organisations to raise awareness of the impacts and issues of sexual assault. Maintain records and collect, maintain and evaluate service provision data. Participate in the collation of program reports to the CRCC Board and Funding Bodies. Monitor and distribute relevant media and articles to CRCC staff. Key Selection Criteria To be considered for this position you must have: Well-developed understanding of the causes and consequences of sexual violence. Demonstrated previous experience in providing support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and knowledge of available referral pathways. Understanding of community development and capacity building concepts and strategies, previous experience developing and delivering community education sessions to a diverse range of groups and individuals. Working knowledge and understanding of cultural issues; family and community dynamics and relationships; and complexities as well as the political sensitivities of indigenous communities within the ACT. Well-developed communication, liaison and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to work positively in a team environment to promote and model collaborative and respectful staff and network relationships. Demonstrated computer literacy including reporting skills and record management.
