Your Opportunity Our Defence team is looking for a Nuclear Safety Case Capability Lead to join our team in Sydney or Canberra. You will play a key role in upholding Mott MacDonald’s commitment to technical excellence, providing technical leadership in nuclear safety, supporting the development of our nuclear business in Australia under the technical mentorship of our Global Nuclear Practice. Our global nuclear business plays a pivotal role in complex projects including decommissioning, new build development, major refurbishments and developing nuclear technologies. It is an exciting time to join; with Australia embarking on the pathway to acquire nuclear-powered, conventionally armed submarines, and a global growth of nuclear in support of the journey to net-zero. Key responsibilities: Lead the growth of nuclear safety case capability for Mott MacDonald in the Asia Pacific Provide technical leadership across a range of projects and applications, including but not limited to Nuclear Powered Submarine (NPS) support infrastructure and radiopharmaceutical production Provide technical advice and guidance to clients and internal staff on the application of international good practice in the field of nuclear safety and engagement with external nuclear regulatory bodies Lead and support technical and quality assurance activities relating to the design and safety analysis of nuclear infrastructure Play a leading role in developing sovereign nuclear skills in Australia, collaborating closely with other members of our Global nuclear practice Provide mentorship to staff seeking to develop their knowledge and experience of nuclear safety principles About you You are an experienced leader invested in the development of those around you. You have more than ten years’ experience delivering projects in the nuclear sector or a mix of experience across high-hazard industries. For this role you need to have prior experience and would be capable of guiding others in one or more of the following areas: ALARP/ALARA justification Deterministic Safety Assessment Probabilistic Safety Assessment Hazard identification and assessment (including HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA) Functional Safety Assessment National/International Nuclear Safety Legislation, Regulation and Policy To be successful in this role you will need to have: Degree qualified in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline Experience in civil or naval nuclear programs, radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear waste management and/or decommissioning industries (applicants from other high-hazard industries will be considered) Ability to demonstrate successful delivery of nuclear safety deliverables Australian or UK Security Clearance (or be eligible to apply for it) Our values, culture, and benefits We succeed together, and fairness and integrity are at our core.
