Job Description

One of our federal government clients is seeking to engage an Oracle Developer at Canberra location. Location of work: Canberra Length of contract: 04 months Contract extensions: 24 months extension (two extensions of twelve months each) Security clearance: Must have Baseline clearance CLIENT is seeking experienced Software Engineers (Oracle Developers) to support the maintenance and enhancement of existing business applications within the Corporate Systems Branch (CSB). This role involves working as part of a small multi-disciplinary team to deliver solutions for business needs and maintain current Oracle-based applications. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining large and complex applications, conducting code reviews, and ensuring that application development aligns with the department’s standards and methodologies. We are looking for creative problem-solvers with strong analytical and technical expertise. The successful candidates will have extensive experience in Oracle development, with demonstrated experience in maintaining and enhancing large-scale applications. They will work closely with various stakeholders, including business analysts, testers, and other technical teams, to ensure the successful delivery of projects. In addition to technical skills, the ideal candidates will possess excellent communication and collaboration abilities, enabling them to effectively work with diverse teams and drive project success. As an Oracle Developer in the Health Business Applications Section, you will require a deep understanding of Oracle and associated frameworks, as well as experience in maintaining and enhancing complex applications. The Department is seeking high-caliber and high-performing candidates to support CSB-related projects and programs. Note: This position will be based in Canberra and will be available starting February 2025. On occasion, this role may require working outside standard business hours, including weekends, to undertake system maintenance activities. Key duties and responsibilities Develop and maintain Oracle databases in accordance with business requirements and specifications. Design and implement database schemas, tables, views, indexes, triggers, procedures, functions, packages, and other database objects using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL. Optimise database performance, security, availability, and scalability using Oracle tools and best practices. Create and execute unit test cases, debug and troubleshoot issues, and document and maintain code quality and standards. Collaborate with other developers, analysts, testers, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions. Provide technical support and guidance to developers, delivery managers, and the Health Business Applications team as required. Investigate and resolve production system application issues promptly to minimise downtime and ensure continuity of service. Research and evaluate new Oracle database features and recommend solutions to improve existing systems and processes. Follow change control processes to ensure all solutions are implemented efficiently and effectively. Demonstrate the ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines and changing requirements. Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively. Develop and maintain comprehensive production support documentation to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. At least 3 years of experience in Oracle development, preferably in a large-scale and complex application development environment. Proficient in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including advanced features such as analytical functions, collections, dynamic SQL, and exception handling. Experience in developing and deploying Oracle databases using Oracle tools and frameworks. Experience with change management processes and tools. Knowledge of Oracle database administration, backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, and data modelling techniques. Experience with software development methodologies, such as agile, waterfall, or scrum, and tools, such as version control, testing, debugging, and documentation. Ability to juggle multiple projects and prioritise tasks according to urgency and importance. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Desirable Criteria: Certification in Oracle technologies, such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Oracle Certified Master (OCM), or Oracle Certified Expert (OCE), is a plus. Experience with Azure DevOps as a tool for managing development workflows (such as tasks/PBI’s). Familiarity with Azure DevOps for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) for oracle developers. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server advantageous.
