The Orthotic and Prosthetic Unit at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville seeks an experienced orthotic/prosthetic technician, tradesperson, or person with excellent hand skills to join our team as an Orthotic Prosthetic Technical Officer Grade 1 or 2. Orthotic Prosthetic Technical Officers are an essential part of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Unit. The successful applicant will be required to work closely with other technicians and clinicians to manufacture orthoses and prostheses to a high technical standard. They will take on responsibility for their area of specialisation within the team. This role is primarily in the workshop, without patient contact. This is a Permanent Full-Time position at 76 hours per fortnight. Classification for this position with range from Grade 1 Year 1 to Grade 2 Year 5 (FTE base salary $63,435 - $79,970 per annum, plus superannuation). What you'll achieve: Work closely with clinicians to fabricate and finish a wide range of orthoses (body braces) and prostheses (artificial limbs). Participate in professional development activities to ensure that best technical practice is maintained. Transfer solutions from one task to another and develop the skills to provide customised solutions for individual patients. Possess excellent communication skills, to fit with a dynamic team of both experienced and developing practitioners. Actively contribute, as an individual and as a member of a team, to the continuous improvement of health care quality and patient safety. Your skills and experience: Previous orthotic and/or prosthetic technical experience is not essential. Transferable skills with hand tools and workshop machinery. A strong work ethic and a commitment to the highest of quality standards in your work. A willingness to learn new techniques, skills and fabrication methods. Initiative and the ability to work independently. An understanding and commitment to safe work practices, with practical WH&S knowledge. Other requirements: Current National Criminal Record Check, or willing to obtain. Valid Working with Children Check. Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willing to obtain. Compliance with RCH's “Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases” procedure.
