ACT Climate Change Council Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Member Part-time Temporary Classification: Position No: ACT Climate Change Council Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Member Directorate: Advertised (Gazettal date): 29 January 2025 Contact Officer: Emma Charge at ACT Climate Change Council Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Member Advertisement – ACT Diversity Register Description of Board/Committee/Council The ACT Climate Change Council (the Council) was established in September 2011 under the Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act 2010 . The role of the Council is to advise the Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water on matters relating to climate change. In exercising its functions, the Council must try to consult as broadly as possible across business and the community and provide information to encourage the community to take action to address and adapt to a changing climate. Council members are appointed by the Minister for a three-year term, with members receiving a sitting fee. The Council generally meets every two months, or as required, for a three-hour period during business hours. An online Q&A session will be held from 5pm-6pm on 13 February 2025 to answer questions about the dedicated positions. Please register here if you are interested in attending. Job Description The Minister is seeking to appoint at least two Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander members who have the skills, experience, and knowledge associated with providing a First Nations cultural perspective to the work of the ACT Climate Change Council, as well as interest and knowledge in areas related to climate change. These include, but are not limited to, the following topics: Just transition and supporting people who are socially or financially disadvantaged The landscape The built environment Adaptation and being resilient and ready for the changing climate Mitigation of climate emissions, including from the key energy and transport sectors and the electrification of Canberra First Nations people not interested in applying for the dedicated positions are encouraged to apply as a general member.
