About the opportunity: At LaunchPad, the Detmold Group’s in-house innovation facility, we drive innovation in packaging through product design, development and validation. Our cutting-edge solutions bring packaging ideas to life—faster and smarter. We have an opportunity for an experienced Packaging Materials Technologist to join our Product & Brand – Strategic development team. Based in Brompton, SA and reporting to the Strategic Product Development Manager, you’ll investigate and explore coatings for paper and board to assist with new product development and identify emerging products and technologies to drive innovation. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate on the co-development of sustainable products, pioneering initiatives that have never been done before. In terms of specific responsibilities, you will: Work with suppliers to identify materials, technologies and capabilities for potential business applications. Investigate relevant standards for legislative and customer requirements. Support external testing, validation & certification of sustainability and compliance claims. Support the NPD (New Product Development) and design teams in executing key projects. Partner with suppliers, startups, and universities to explore new opportunities. Collaborate with lab technicians and the Lab Manager to develop or refine testing methods focused on recycling and sustainability. About you: What you’ll need: A degree qualification in science, engineering or similar. Experience in a similar role, ideally in foodservice or packaging industries. Sound commercial acumen. An understanding of the difference between university and commercial laboratories. The ability to solve problems and navigate challenging situations. A proactive approach and the ability to think outside of the box. Resilience and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
