Location: North East Region | Whittlesea Job type: Part time Organisation: The Royal Children's Hospital Occupation: Health and Allied Health Reference: 12779 Job posted: 21/01/2025 Closes: 11/02/2025 Classification: Undefined Salary Range: $250,000 - $350,000 Work location: North East Region | Whittlesea About the Role: This is a permanent (ongoing) position at 14 hours per fortnight within the Mental Health Department, in a community-based mental health team based initially at Travancore and will move to Tarneit. You Will be Responsible For: The role provides direct clinical care informed by the latest evidence base to a number of consumers with complex mental health problems referred for assessments and interventions to the South West Mental Health community team at Tarneit. The role will provide direct paediatric care including diagnostic evaluation, prescription and monitoring of medications, participation in Autism Spectrum Disorder team assessments and documentation of care in the Electronic Medical Record. The paediatrician will contribute expert clinical opinion to the development of procedures and policy that influence community service provision and seek to advance evidence-based practice delivered in the community team. The role will participate in clinical quality improvement activities in the department. What You’ll Achieve: Provide effective, coordinated client- and family-centred Paediatric care. Be responsible for maintaining the standard of clinical assessments (including developmental assessments), diagnosis, brief interventions, discharge and handover of the consumers. Support the consultant psychiatrist in providing clinical oversight of care, within scope of practice, provided by all team clinicians. Ensure that all direct clinical work and care procedures are accurately and promptly documented. Provide the quantity of service outputs as agreed with the Team Consultant Psychiatrist and Team Coordinator. Support the training of the psychiatry registrar by including them in assessments and interventions to give them exposure and experience. Take on the supervision and training of an advanced paediatric trainee posted to the team by arrangement. Model a high standard of professional and interpersonal skills, attitudes and behaviours. Collaborate effectively with the Team Coordinator to ensure operational and clinical targets are met, and clinical care is of a consistently high standard. Work collaboratively with other clinical and service leaders to support high-quality inter-disciplinary care. Participate in bi-monthly supervision with the Director Mental Health for tracking work plans for the year, and managing competing demands for clinical, service and training activities. Advocate for a service culture of evidence-based and outcomes-driven practice, continual learning and improvement. Your Skills and Experience: Essential • Registration as medical practitioner and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.• Extensive experience in working in developmental and behavioural paediatrics.Desirable • Accreditation as an RACP Supervisor.• An interest in teaching and research with publications in refereed journals in the field of developmental and behavioural paediatrics. About the Department: RCH Mental Health is a Level 5 tertiary Infant, Child and Family Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and comprises community and hospital-based services. This includes an Intake and Assessment Team based at Parkville and three multidisciplinary community-based teams located at Travancore, St Albans and Hoppers Crossing. RCH Mental Health is currently undergoing an exciting transformation and expansion as we implement the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
