Westmead HospitalPermanent 0.5FTE Staff Specialist – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Staff Specialist position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Westmead Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital in Western Sydney serving one of the largest growing population areas in Sydney. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department comprises 7 consultant surgeons, 4 accredited registrars, one unaccredited registrar, and one medical resident. The Department is the largest Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training unit in the NSW/ACT OMFS training program. Attributes desired from the preferred candidate: A commitment to provide Oral and Maxillofacial services to patients within the public health system. Enthusiasm and ability to teach the next generation of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Ability to work in a team and collaborate collegially with other colleagues including Surgeons from other disciplines, Dentists, Medical Specialists, and Support Staff. Commitment to continual review of quality assurance standards of practice to ensure excellent patient outcomes. Essential Requirements for Appointment Possess or be eligible for registration with both the Medical Board of Australia and Dental Board of Australia and possess RACDS Fellowship qualification FRACDS(OMS) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable). Sound clinical knowledge in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Fellowship training post qualification (12 months or more) is preferred. Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration. Selection Criteria Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical/Dental Practitioner including: Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships. Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by: Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude. Commitment to self-care and personal development.
