ABOUT THE ROLE: The Manager of Philanthropy will report directly to the CEO and oversee all strategies, activities, and events implemented to outreach, engage, retain, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors across generations. With a focus on NextGen, Jewish communal organisations, AJF members, and community foundations, this role will work closely with the CEO and the philanthropy team to develop strategies to best reach the community and provide the tools that lay volunteers and professionals need to succeed. The position is responsible for creating a thriving culture of philanthropy for the Jewish community and its members. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the AJF philanthropy team to create, develop, and facilitate philanthropic initiatives that offer strategic and meaningful engagement opportunities for individuals and families across generations. Implement innovative strategies to elevate giving, ensuring impactful and sustainable philanthropic contributions of the 5Ts of giving – time, talent, treasure ties and testimonies. Relationship Management: Manage relationships with AJF members and giving groups, documenting progress and interactions to support and inspire their philanthropic goals. Conduct outreach meetings with newcomers, lay leaders, and community partners to strengthen ties, identify potential new members, and explore opportunities for collaboration and engagement with AJF programs. Giving Groups Initiatives: Develop, support, and facilitate existing giving groups, ensuring their effective operation and growth. Identify, train, and provide ongoing support to leaders of new giving groups, fostering a robust network of engaged philanthropists. Community Engagement: Support philanthropists and giving groups in deepening their engagement with community issues by providing meaningful connections and learning opportunities. Manage and develop philanthropic community programs and content with the support of the AJF team. Identify and respond to giving and community trends with targeted engagement programming. Impact Measurement: Evaluate and revise philanthropic initiatives and programs annually to ensure effectiveness and retention. Utilise data and feedback to measure impact and refine strategies for continuous improvement. Leadership Development: Identify young adults with the potential to become future leaders in the Australian Jewish community. Provide opportunities for cultivation, education, and development through both formal and informal philanthropic and leadership development programs. Professional Development: Stay current with job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, keeping up to date with professional publications, and maintaining personal networks. Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth and skill enhancement. Additional Responsibilities: Collaborate with the CEO and the philanthropy team on strategic planning and goal setting. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and ethical standards in philanthropic activities. Represent AJF at community events, conferences, and other relevant gatherings to promote the organisation’s mission and goals. ABOUT YOU: To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following skills and experience: Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of Jewish culture, with experience providing engagement opportunities that support Jewish identity and reflect Jewish values. Knowledge of the philanthropic sector in the Jewish community, (broader Australian society, and the world is preferred, but not essential as this is quite niche and can be developed in the role). Skills and Competencies: Demonstrable success in building and cultivating trusted relationships; ability to work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively with lay leadership, external community organisations, internal stakeholders, and AJF members. Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills with a strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the capacity to present to diverse groups. Proven ability to plan, implement, and measure post-programmatic and strategic outcomes. Flexible, adaptable, and enthusiastic attitude.
