After becoming a PCO, you may be able to progress to a supervising police custody officer (SPCO) role. A career as an SPCO gives you an opportunity to be a leader in the custody area. Supervising police custody officer roles SPCOs oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of a team of PCOs. You will be a valued member of the local police team. You will also play a crucial role in the management and welfare of persons in custody. As part of this role, you will: supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of a team of PCOs monitor the quality PCO services oversee the health, wellbeing, safety and supervision of persons in custody carry out prisoner management functions for more complex prisoners monitor, supervise and undertake administrative and personnel functions provide leadership, mentoring, performance management and coordination of training activities give evidence in court when required. Supervising PCOs are stationed at 17 locations around Victoria. Work hours PCOs work across 24 hours a day, seven days a week. SPCO shifts depend on local requirements. Minimum Requirements To apply to become a supervising PCO you must be a current serving PCO and complete extra training.
