Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Science & Society) — University of Queensland Job no: 500265Area: Faculty of Humanities and Social SciencesSalary (FTE): Academic Research Level A1 ($64,533.50 – $87,535.13)Work type: Full Time – Fixed TermLocation: St Lucia The Institute of Advanced Studies in the Humanities The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH), founded in July 2015, promotes high-level research in traditional humanities disciplines and engages with recent developments, including cultural studies and science communication. IASH consists of full-time research-focused academics, postdoctoral fellows, faculty fellows, and visiting fellows, supported by strategic funding from the UQ Senior Executive and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Research areas include intellectual history, critical and cultural studies, and the history of emotions. The role The Institute is seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Fellows. One will focus on Science and Society, conducting research on topics such as:1. Contemporary attitudes towards science and religion.2. Religiously-motivated opposition to scientific premises or modern technologies.3. Atheism and perceptions of science and religion.4. Understandings of science and religion interactions among educators.The second fellow will focus on the Australian Laureate Fellowship project on ‘Science and Secularization’, led by Professor Peter Harrison. The person Applicants must have completed a PhD and possess experience in a relevant field such as history, sociology, religious studies, or science communication. Candidates should be able to independently construct and carry out the proposed research project.
