Join us as we contribute to this significant mission in the energy sector. About the role The WA Planning & Forecasting team: Powering Reliability and Efficiency in the SWIS. As an integral part of WA Operations, the WA Operational Planning & Forecasting team plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and secure operation of the Southwest Interconnected System (SWIS). As a Power System Engineer, you'll be instrumental in maintaining SWIS reliability and security. You'll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimise outage planning and scheduling and provide expert technical support to the WA control room team. Your work will directly impact the safe and efficient operation of Western Australia's power system. Once fully trained, we offer the ability to work on a roster which includes shift loading, on-call allowance, an additional week of leave (5 weeks total), and city parking. (Additional details of the roster can be provided on request). What you will be doing: Utilise your technical knowledge to guide and optimise operational planning activities, ensuring a reliable and secure grid. Conduct comprehensive power system security analysis, including load flow studies and contingency assessments, to mitigate risks. Engage with diverse stakeholders across the energy industry, fostering collaboration and driving positive outcomes. Conduct in-depth capacity calculations to assist Market Participants with outage planning. We're committed to your growth. What you will bring to the role: A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems, with experience in the electricity industry. A passion for continuous learning and staying ahead in the dynamic energy landscape. While prior experience is valued, we're also open to recent graduates with a strong academic foundation. You'll receive comprehensive training and full support from the team to excel in this role. Understanding of power systems, including generation types, network equipment, and energy system characteristics. Capability in conducting power system analysis, with expertise in load flow and fault studies. Proficiency in power system modelling and analysis tools like PowerFactory, PSCAD, Python, eTerra, or PLEXOS.
