Principal Consultant - English as an Additional Language or Dialect Branch: Quality Teaching Division: Professional Capability - Statewide Services Salary: Level 7, $134,481 - $143,736 per annum (pro-rata) (PSCA 2024) This is an eight (8) month fixed term, full-time position commencing April 2025 with possible extension and/or permanency. An opportunity exists for an experienced, passionate and innovative educator to become part of the Teaching Quality and Innovation Directorate at Statewide Services. The Directorate’s two branches, being Quality Teaching and Curriculum Priorities, inform and contribute to system, State and Commonwealth initiatives. The Teaching Quality and Innovation Directorate strengthens support for teaching and learning excellence in every classroom, developing and implementing core system-wide strategies and priorities focused on developing teaching quality and leads the system’s model of profession-led support. Statewide Services provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most. It encompasses both school and system-facing service delivery. While it primarily exists to support schools, it also has an important system-facing role supporting strategy and policy development, with a focus on building professional capability to improve student achievement by enabling teaching and leadership excellence. The Role The English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) Principal Consultant requires substantial knowledge of and experience in effective EALD teaching and learning practices in West Australian schools. The role includes building EALD understandings and capabilities at a school, regional, network and system level, with a focus on designing and facilitating professional learning programs. The Consultant will contribute to EALD related policies, guidelines and procedures to support continuous improvement in service delivery. The Consultant will provide expert advice and strategic input into the development, implementation and monitoring of successful EALD initiatives, guidelines and teaching practices to support EALD students, teachers, and schools, informed by Teaching for Impact. The Consultant will also deliver current and timely advice on EALD enrolments, funding, and student support services aligned with the Department’s foci and strategic directions. The work of this role includes preparation of high-level correspondence, reports, and briefings for school leaders and senior management. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, the Consultant will foster collaborative relationships and partnerships to support the development of integrated system and service delivery. Essential to the role is a belief and commitment to cultural responsiveness, and supporting the cultural conditions required in a school to successfully implement whole school practices that recognise and respond to the needs of EALD students, including effective teaching aligned to Teaching for Impact and the Quality Teaching Strategy. Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with senior officers, school leaders and other stakeholders. Demonstrated highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of complex reports, briefing notes and professional learning documentation.
