Queensland’s hospital system is facing greater demand and pressure than ever before. This is driven by our growing and ageing population, and compounded by pressures on primary, aged and disability care. To help address this, Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ), in partnership with Hospital and Health Services (HHS), is leading the biggest hospital expansion program Queensland has ever seen. The program includes building three new hospitals, expanding 11, upgrading rural and regional health facilities and delivering thousands of new hospital beds in the next five years. Working in HIQ, you will forge a new sustainable delivery model and contribute to the delivery of projects that ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders – what could be more rewarding than that? We are looking for a motivated and experienced Principal Officer to support the development and implementation of HIQ's data strategy and roadmap within the Operations Branch. The successful candidate will have experience authoring documentation that supports effective data governance, including policies, procedures, data dictionaries, guides, and work instructions. The Principal Officer works closely with the Manager, Data Strategy & Management, and key stakeholders to drive improvements to systems, data architecture and data quality to enhance HIQ's reporting and analytics capability. The Principal Officer supports the Data Engineer by capturing, managing, and communicating business requirements and technical change. The successful person To be successful in the role, you will possess a combination of strong project management and communication skills, while having the technical ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions that will be implemented in collaboration with the Data Engineer and our IT partners. Specifically, we are looking for the following skillsets: Leadership and organisation Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, with the ability to provide technical leadership when engaging with internal and external stakeholders and providers. Ability to work closely with team members and management to problem-solve, plan, and deliver solutions within a complex and challenging environment. Communication and interpersonal Skills Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to respectfully liaise, consult and negotiate with stakeholders while maintaining and nurturing productive working relationships. Ability to quickly understand and document our customers' data needs, and to present briefings and information sessions to our stakeholders to keep them informed about our work. Problem solving and continuous improvement Experience in critically reviewing, developing and coordinating enhancements to end-to-end IT solutions – including applications, databases, data pipelines, data layers and reporting services – to drive efficiency and effectiveness through streamlined data capture and storage, automation, integration and optimisation. Technical experience Ability to effectively manage the delivery of complex data solutions in a DevOps environment. Experience using Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks and Power BI Service to help build prototypes and production solutions. Familiarity with SharePoint, Power Apps and Power Automate. Resilience and flexibility Ability to react positively to emerging priorities and remain calm and constructive when presented with a challenge. Willingness to assist with routine tasks as required and proactively support colleagues to achieve team objectives and maintain a healthy and productive work environment. The ideal candidate will have a university qualification in IT or similar, and an understanding of project management in the context of major infrastructure planning and delivery.
